Summary
 Wii U is the successor to the hugely popular Nintendo Wii video games console. It features a new type of controller, called the GamePad, which has it's own touch screen that allows a player to experience different viewpoints depending on differing scenarios. During single player games, the GamePad can display different information on it's screen than the TV. Also, the viewpoint and information can change on the Gamepad based on the orientation of the gyroscope. During multiplayer games, the player using a GamePad controller can experience a different view than those looking at the TV allowing for more cooperative opportunities. The GamePad controller features a 6.3 inch screen, gyroscope, accelerometer, inward facing camera, rumble feature, speakers and microphone. More traditional controls included are two analogue circle pads, left and right buttons and control pad. An additional controller will also be available called the Wii U Pro Controller (similar to the Xbox 360 controller), which features more standard control sticks, triggers and buttons. This is aimed at more "hardcore" gamers to help make it compete with Microsoft's and Sony's consoles. Bundled with the console is Nintendo Land. This a selection of games, much like Wii Sports on the Wii, which demonstrates the capabilities of the new console. Based on a theme park, twelve mini games are included with each game helping players get to grips with gaming on two screens. The new console is backward compatible with all previous Wii games and accessories such as the Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuk and Wii Balance Board. However, it will not be compatible with Gamecube games or accessories. Full HD graphics are supported and the console has flexible storage capabilities with it's internal flash memory which is expandable using either an external USH hard drive or standard SD memory card. Console dimensions are 1.8" Height x 6.8" Width x 10.5" Depth. |
