Rarest Funko Pops

Posted Mon Feb 19 2024

In the world of Funko Pop collectibles, certain figures stand out not just for their popularity, but for their rarity and exclusivity. These gems, coveted by collectors, often fetch staggering prices on the resale market, usually demanding tens of thousands rather than hundreds on the resale market. The whole topic is fascinating, which is why we've put together a list of the rarest Funko Pop figures to guide you through some of the most elusive sets.

Now, it's worth getting it out the way that there's no real way of determining which sets are rarer than others. Many figures are like gold dust, and we'd argue the ones at the very top are just as rare as each other. That's because they're all pretty much unattainable for us regular collectors, with only those with the right contacts and huge disposable income able to get their hands on them

So how did we make this list? Well, we've primarily picked sets based on their online estimated value. The thought here is that the more expensive they are, the rarer they're likely to be. However, we've also taken into account when each one was released, whether or not they were a limited edition figure, and just how little information there is available about them online. Bearing these factors in mind, here are what we believe are some of the rarest Funko Pop figures released to date…

1. Willy Wonka & Oompa Loompa Golden Ticket - 2 Pack

While the rest of this list is up for debate, the Golden Ticket Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa Funko Pop is widely regarded as one of the rarest sets available.

They debuted at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, and it's been said only a handful of sets were ever created. To obtain one, fans in attendance had the opportunity to win them by finding golden tickets in chocolate bars, drawing a close parallel with the movie.

As you could only win this duo, it’s unsurprising the set is so rare. The pair have also made headlines on multiple occasions, with the most noteworthy being a $100,000 sale in 2022, and then that same person selling the set they’d brought for $210,000 a year later. We think it’s safe to say anything that sells for that much is up there as one of the rarest of its kind around.

Radio Days Clockwork Orange (Glow in the Dark)>

2. Radio Days Clockwork Orange (Glow in the Dark)

This glow-in-the-dark Clockwork Orange Funko Pop is from way back when the brand wasn't as big as it is today. In 2012, Funko simply didn't have the funds to pay for licenses, so would routinely turn to a company named Radio Days to counter the copyright laws it was up against.

The story goes that this didn't sit well with the owners of the Clockwork Orange rights when it came to this particular release, so Funko was left in a predicament to either destroy the models or face legal action. This led to all but 24 of them being destroyed, with those left split between 12 Chase and 12 non-Chase versions.

With so few left standing, this Radio Days Clockwork Orange figure is undoubtedly one of the rarest. With an estimated value close to $50,000 too, it's pretty much unattainable for all of us.

Freddy Funko as Count Chocula (Glow in the Dark)>

3. Freddy Funko as Count Chocula (Glow in the Dark)

Continuing with the glow-in-the-dark figures and this Freddy Funko Pop as Count Chocula - the popular mascot of the monster chocolate cereal. Released in 2011, it was another that debuted as a limited edition, with only a handful ever reaching the hands of collectors.

Due to its age and exclusivity, this set has become one of the rarest Funko Pops to have ever existed, and, therefore, has a costly resale value that's estimated to be around $10,000. That said, you would probably have to pay even more than that to get your hands on one these days, as that estimation appears to be based on a sale that took place years ago. If the other figures on this list are anything to go by, we wouldn't be surprised if you'd have to pay at least double that for one these days.

Freddy Funko as Jaime Lannister (Bloody)>

4. Freddy Funko as Jaime Lannister (Bloody)

Even though the finale divided the fanbase, Game of Thrones remains one of the most popular TV shows ever made, so it was only a matter of time before a Funko Pop based on a character from the TV show made this list.

The figure isn’t just any character though, it’s a Freddy Funko recreation of Jaime Lannister, specifically with blood splattered across the face. This set debuted exclusively at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con and was distributed to lucky winners of various raffles. It’s no wonder, then, that this figure is so elusive today, selling for $24,000 back in 2022.

Freddy Funko as Tony Stark (Metallic)>

5. Freddy Funko as Tony Stark (Metallic)

Finally, we come to a Freddy Funko of one of the most popular movie characters of the last decade at least, if not all time considering just how popular the Marvel Cinematic Universe is. We're talking, of course, about Iron Man, aka Tony Stark.

This metallic model was released exclusively at the San Diego Comic Con (once again) in 2012, and it's rumoured only 12 were ever produced. Predictably, it has an estimated value well over $35,000 these days due to its limited release. This makes it yet another extremely rare and unattainable Funko Pop that also concludes our list of the rarest Funko Pops in existence today.
